Digi Pack Design

In order to get ideas about what our Digi Pack could look like,we began looking at
Album covers of the same or similar genre to ours.

With these covers we really liked the abstract/ arty covers. we also liked the faded lettering
of the bottom right one.

In order to have a continuing theme through out our Digi pack, poster and music video
we felt that because we are using a bike in our promo it would be a good thing to include
in both of our promotional products.

Digi Pack Analysis

Digi Pack Analysis

The Bands Appearance

After researching into bands of a similar or the same genre of Echotape, we have decided to dress our band members I skinny jeans, slightly baggy plain t-shirts and casual footwear. We have decided to do this because we feel our band isn’t trying to be something completely different so we wouldn’t dress them in over the top garments. But on the other hand, they are still an indie rock band and we need to portray that in the way that they dress.

didgi pack analysis

his is the album cover for the Gorillaz – Demon Days. The first thing that catches your eye is the cartoon versions of the band members which stand out from the clear cut background. The cartoon characters are also included in some of these albums music videos which means people who have watched the video can instantly recognise the art work and know who the album is by. But on the other hand there is still text on the bottom and tom which connotes that the Gorillaz band identity is not yet strong enough to have no text at all.
The lead singer for the Gorillaz is Damon Albarn who is also the lead singer for blur. I feel that this album cover has links to blurs album ‘The Best Of’ because although the colour scheme is different there is a clear link between the cartoon representations of the band members.

The genre of the band, indie rock/ alternative hip hop/ electronica is very clearly shown by the cartoons colour scheme of the album cover. The colours used for the cartoon characters are fairly dark and sharp which shows that they have been made on the computer instead of being hand drawn. This again in comparison to Blurs album cover differentiates the two bands identities.
By having the band members look to the right, I feel it connotes that they are not concerned about what’s going on in front of them but are more focused on what they believe in. In comparison to the Blur album cover which connotes that they are a fun band that want you to buy there album, the Gorillaz seem like they don’t care whether or not you but there album because they made it for themselves.

Post Modernism

post modernism is taking the traditional and changing elements within it.

changing forms eg: oil painting to cartoon

They can be funny/playful and most often refer to the past or plays with reality

scepitcal or playfulk interpritations of cutrual work (art, buildings, muisc, etc) from the past

intertextuality

renivating what was before

mixing of styles and influences

stages of muisc

the experimental stage of genre attempts to establish trends...

the cannon stage works within those trends to fix them into our cutural understanding...

the post-modern looks at those trends, laughs at them, pokes them with a big stick and adds/ creats something new.

types of intertexuality

homage- imertation in the highest form of flattery.

pastiche- using the imagrey of one text to make a comment about another.

parody- taking the micky.

Genre

definition: Genre is the style seen throughout a media text

Genre is no longer a fixed set of elements

this point argues that the stereotypical elements have now become so mixed up that its hard to pin point just one genre to a music promo.

buckingham (1990) argues that genre is a constant process of negotiation and change.

genre will always be moving and will never stay still becuase of the ever chaging muisc world.

a hybrid genre is a mixer of two ot more genres, another reason why it is hard to pin point on genre to a music promo.

a repertoire of elements that an audiance expect to see in a media text of a specific genre. for example in a rock band music promo the audiance is expecting to see guitars classing about, fire and alot of perofrmance.

why is the concept of genre useful for an audiance to know before they watch a music promo?

it is importnat becuase for some videos, the audinace may need to know infomation about the band or the genre.
list of prier expectatons about what you are gong to get/full fills audiance expectations.
genres are fairly prodictable.
short hand means of communicating with the audiance, you know what to expect.
allows a quick set up becuase the audiance know what to expect but there still need to be something to avoid the cliche.

verisimilitude- how real/reaslistic a text is.
